Today I downloaded ChatGPT to ask a series of questions about Financial Crime. The responses generated were succinct, well written and instantaneous. I would recommend giving the AI platform a go as a fun new way of exploring topics of interest. This technology is only going to improve with each version released, and become more applicable in many professional fields. Here is a snippet of its outputs to my first question - How can we combat Financial Crime? There are a number of ways to combat financial crime, including: Regulatory measures- Governments and financial regulatory bodies can put in place laws, regulations, and policies to deter financial crime and establish consequences for those who engage in such activities. Financial intelligence units- These specialized units within law enforcement agencies or financial regulatory bodies collect and analyze financial information to identify and investigate financial crimes. International cooperation- Financial crimes often involve cross-border transactions and can be perpetrated by transnational criminal organizations. As such, international cooperation is crucial in combating financial crime, as it allows countries to share information, coordinate investigations, and take joint action against those involved in financial crime. Private sector efforts- Financial institutions and other private sector organizations can also play a role in combating financial crime by implementing internal controls and reporting suspicious activity to the relevant authorities. Education and awareness- Raising awareness about financial crime and educating the public on how to identify and report such activities can help to reduce the incidence of financial crime. My prediction for 2023: ID verification as standard on ALL platforms. The rise in quality and availability of AI tooling (e.g. ChatGPT) has been incredible to watch, but it’s easy to see that it could lead to a huge rise in scams. There will be big security/privacy concerns and a lot of hesitance from users, but I think verification will be essential to protect the legitimacy of these platforms. What do you think?
